Good Morning Holy Spirit Pt 1

Pentecost Sunday marks one of the most significant moments in Christian history - the day the Holy Spirit was poured out on Jesus' followers 50 days after His resurrection. This wasn't just a historical event; it was the birthday of the church and the beginning of supernatural empowerment for believers.

Before Pentecost, the disciples had information about Jesus. After Pentecost, they had power. Peter went from denying Jesus to boldly preaching about Him. This transformation reveals one of the Holy Spirit's most powerful works: giving believers boldness to share their faith and live victoriously.

Many Christians today are like the believers Paul encountered in Acts 19:2, who said, "No, we haven't even heard that there is a Holy Spirit." They're trying to follow Jesus without this crucial aspect of their faith.

The truth is, your faith cannot function without the Holy Spirit. He's not optional - He's essential to living life to the fullest. According to Scripture, the Holy Spirit convicts us of sin, enables us to pray, guides us, teaches us, empowers us, and comforts us.

As 1 Corinthians 12:3 states: "No one can say Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit." You literally cannot follow Jesus without the Holy Spirit's involvement in your life.

Who Is the Holy Spirit? The Holy Spirit is a person, not a force. One of the biggest misunderstandings about the Holy Spirit is thinking of Him as an "it" rather than a "who." The Holy Spirit isn't a bird, a ghost, a cloud, or an impersonal force. He is a person with a distinct personality.

Jesus referred to the Holy Spirit as "He" in John 14:17: "He is the Holy Spirit who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him because it isn't looking for him and doesn't recognize him. But you know him because he lives with you now and later will be in you."

The Holy Spirit has a complete personality. A personality consists of mind, will, and emotions. The Holy Spirit possesses all three:

  • The Holy Spirit Has a Will

In Acts 16:6, we see Paul and Silas being prevented by the Holy Spirit from preaching in Asia at that time. The Holy Spirit exercised His will and redirected their ministry. His will is God's will, which means following the Holy Spirit daily is how you discover God's direction for your life.

Instead of living in fear about missing God's will, you can wake up each morning saying, "Good morning, Holy Spirit. I want to follow You today." He'll give you peace about decisions regarding your career, relationships, and life choices.

    • The Holy Spirit Has a Mind

First Corinthians 2:11 tells us: "God's spirit is the only one who knows what is in God's mind." Since God knows everything, and the Holy Spirit knows God's mind, He has access to all truth and can guide you through any problem.

John 16:13 promises: "When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth... and he will tell you about the future." The Holy Spirit has all the truth you need for your business, career, parenting, and marriage. He's simply waiting for you to ask.

  • The Holy Spirit Has Emotions

Galatians 5:22 describes the fruit of the Spirit: "love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control." This is a description of His personality, and the more time you spend with Him, the more your personality will reflect these qualities.

Ephesians 4:30 warns us not to "bring sorrow to God's Holy Spirit by the way you live." While we can't lose the Holy Spirit, we can grieve Him and lose our sense of intimacy with Him through sins against other people - bitterness, anger, harsh words, and slander.

Second Corinthians 13:14 speaks of "the intimate friendship of the Holy Spirit." God's intent wasn't to give you impersonal power, but a personal friend. Building this friendship requires three things:

1. Faith

You must believe that the Holy Spirit wants an intimate relationship with you. When you show up to pray, believe He's waiting for you. When you open your Bible, believe He's going to speak to you and help you understand. Trust that He wants to help you make right decisions and activate your spiritual gifts.

As 1 Corinthians 2:14 explains, "people who aren't spiritual can't receive these truths from God's Spirit." You'll never have a personal relationship with the Holy Spirit if you only try to understand God intellectually.

2. Time

Every relationship requires time to flourish. Just as you know your spouse's voice because you've spent years together, you can learn to recognize the Holy Spirit's voice by spending time with Him.

Luke 24:49 gives us the pattern: "remain in the city of Jerusalem until you are clothed, fully equipped with power from on high." Find a peaceful place where you won't be distracted, and spend time there until you can walk away victorious.

3. Awareness

The Holy Spirit is always present, but we're often unaware. Like people who are "absent while present" on their phones, we can miss His presence even though He's always with us. Cultivate an awareness that He's with you throughout your day.

Daily challenge yourself to develop a deeper relationship with the Holy Spirit. Start each morning with this prayer: "Good morning, Holy Spirit. Thank you for your love, grace, and friendship. I invite you to have your way today. Lead me, guide me, remind me you live on the inside of me. Thank you in advance for what today holds as we face it together."

The Holy Spirit isn't out to embarrass you - He's out to empower you. He believes in you more than you believe in yourself and is more committed to your calling and purpose than you are. Even when you're not aware of Him, He's always aware of you.

If you feel like something is missing in your faith journey, you're not missing something - you're missing someone. The Holy Spirit wants to be your most faithful friend, and developing this relationship will transform every aspect of your Christian walk.
