See Jesus for Yourself

This message from Dr. Dave explores one of life's most important questions: What does it take to be made right with God? In our world of religious pluralism where many believe "all roads lead to God," Jesus makes an exclusive claim that challenges this popular thinking.

While most people don't debate Jesus's existence or even His teachings about helping the poor and loving others, controversy arises when we discuss His exclusive claims. Jesus declared: "'I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me'" - John 14:6 (KJV). This statement directly opposes the inclusive mindset of our culture. Jesus doesn't present Himself as one of many paths to God, but as the only way.

Rather than asking you to consider a church, denomination, or even imperfect Christians, the invitation is simple: see Jesus for yourself. Look at what He claimed, what people said about Him, and what He actually did.

Let’s look at who Jesus came for. Jesus' ministry focused on those everyone else despised. When religious leaders criticized Him for eating with tax collectors and sinners, Jesus responded: "'They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance'" - Mark 2:17 (KJV). Jesus didn't come for people who had it all together. He came for those who needed grace and mercy - which includes all of us.

There were also the miracles Jesus performed. His miracles weren't just historical events. They continue today through transformed lives. Consider the countless testimonies of people whose marriages have been restored, addictions broken, and hearts changed. Even Jesus' detractors didn't debate the validity of His miracles - they just wanted Him to stop performing them.

Jesus’ ministry and miracles were key but being right with God hinges on His death and resurrection. Jesus was miraculously conceived, lived a perfect life without sin, died on the cross for our sins, and rose again three days later just as He predicted.

The transformation in His disciples proves the resurrection's reality. Peter, who denied knowing Jesus three times, became bold enough to preach: "'Ye killed the Prince of life, whom God hath raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses'" - Acts 3:15 (KJV).

Ten of the eleven remaining disciples died as martyrs for their faith. Would they die for a lie? Thomas, known as "Doubting Thomas," needed to touch Jesus' wounds to believe. Once convinced, he took the gospel to India and eventually died for his faith, saying he would never deny the one who died and rose again for him.

As we come to consider Jesus’ life, death and resurrection, what do we need to be saved and to have eternal life with God? The answer isn't through good works, religious performance, or being perfect. Rightness with God comes through faith (Romans 3:22). We're made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for us and conquered death itself. This truth applies to everyone who believes, regardless of their past, their mistakes, or how badly they've messed up.

Jesus didn't come to start a religion - He came to offer eternal life and show us God's love. Religion focuses on what you can do; relationship focuses on what Jesus has already done for you. The difference is profound: instead of trying to earn God's favor through good behavior, we receive His grace through faith in Christ's perfect sacrifice.

God's love is demonstrated through His willingness to give His only Son for sinners. This wasn't for the healthy or righteous, but for the sick and broken - for people like us who desperately need His grace. When we truly see Jesus - His ministry to the outcasts, His miraculous power, His resurrection from the dead, and His offer of eternal life - our only reasonable response is to give our lives completely to Him.

If you've been viewing Christianity as just a religion or cultural tradition, ask God to reveal Himself to your heart, not just your head. If you've never made a personal decision to follow Christ, consider that today might be your moment to experience the transformation that comes from placing your faith in Him.

The resurrection changes everything. Because Jesus conquered death, we can have confidence that our faith is not in vain, our sins are forgiven, and eternal life is available to all who believe. Let's celebrate the reality that Jesus is alive and offers new life to anyone who will receive it.
